Robert English
Robert is 1996 Call and his Practice is exclusively Criminal Defence. As well as a law degree Robert has an LLM in Criminology and the Criminal Justice System passed with Merit [Lond. 93-94.] Robert is an Advocacy Trainer and Ethics Trainer for the College of Law and a registered Pupil Supervisor. Robert is a strong believer in Human Rights, the right to trial by jury and access to justice. Prior to being Called to the Bar Robert offered his services free to the Citizens Advice Bureau based within the Royal Courts of Justice, mainly advocacy in the High Court. Robert has been instructed in many serious crown court cases over the years including murder, attempted murder, rape (including historical), many s.18, many armed robbery and many supply of Class A drugs (including large scale) and high value frauds etc. Robert has acted as Leading Junior in fraud and rape cases. Robert is currently instructed in a number of serious crown court cases including murder (sole counsel.)
Cases this year included a multi-handed £6.5 million Class A drug factory [Luton CC], a £700,000 multi-handed tobacco importation [Ipswich CC], a £250,000 multi-handed e-bay fraud [Reading CC], a s.18 hammer attack (40 days hospitalisation, severe head injuries) [Luton CC], a s.18 garden fork attack (28 stitches to head and other injuries [Luton CC].)
Previous notable cases include multi-handed football related violent disorder (acquitted) [Bristol CC]; certain defendants, including his, later featured in MacIntyre Undercover a BBC documentary (1999.) Multi-handed false imprisonment, torture and s.18 [Luton CC.] Attempted murder and blackmail (4 weeks at the Central Criminal Court) (acquitted.) A mutli-handed £120,000 charity fraud (out at half-time after 16 days of the Prosecution’s case) [Luton CC.] Shooting; acquitted of attempted murder, convicted s.18 [Luton CC.] Historical rape, three complainants, acquitted re two at first trial and hung re one, and acquitted of last complainant at re-trial [Luton CC.] £300,000 multi-handed DSS fraud [Blackfriars CC.] S.18 knife attack [Southwark CC] (acquitted.)
