Practice

Lucie was invited to join chambers in 2009, specialising in crime (defence only). She has quickly established a busy and varied crown court practice. Recent cases include GBH, arson, armed robbery, high value theft, violent disorder and drug supply. Lucie is fast developing a proven record in difficult cases, including for the vulnerable or mentally ill client.

A determined advocate Lucie understands the paramount importance of each case to each individual and gives active and wholehearted commitment to every client.

R v OD & HA [2011] EWCA Crim 1395 – affray sentencing.

Notable Cases

R v L (Harrow Crown Court) – ABH

Machete attack in daylight. Busy park, children watching. Acquitted following submission of no case to answer regarding joint enterprise.

R v DP (a youth) – GBH

Attack on stranger late at night. Non custodial disposal achieved.

R v B (Chelmsford Crown Court)–  Car Ringing – (Junior Counsel)

Junior counsel to defendant who was first on indictment in a car ringing conspiracy valued at £120k. The trial lasted for 7 weeks (241 witness statements, 5 co-defendants, expert forensic and financial evidence and witnesses). 

R v O (Chelmsford Crown Court)- Prosecution of Trafficked Woman

Possession of false documents. Trafficked woman who had history of enslavement Discontinued on day of trial following submission of expert evidence and representations regarding abuse of process in reliance on LM,MB,DG,BT,YT v The Queen [2010] EWCA Crim 2327.

R v S (Luton Crown Court) – Multi-handed Robbery

Multi- handed robbery. Second on indictment. Four co-defendants.

R v LN (a youth) (Aylesbury Crown Court) – 2011 Riots  - Sentencing

Riots 2011. Sentencing. Violent disorder. Only defendant of 13 (which including adults and youths) to avoid immediate custodial sentence.

R v M (Harrow Crown Court) – Armed Robbery

Robbery and false imprisonment of a mother and child at gunpoint.

R v B (Oxford Crown Court) – High Value Theft

Theft of car transporter and seven range rovers. Estimated value of £430k.

MHRA v L – Regulatory  Crime

Represented manufacturer in prosecution by Medicines Health and Regulatory Authority. Complex legal argument regarding EU regulations on CE markings, definition of ‘vitro’ and ‘in vitro’ medical devices, burden of proof in statutory defences for regulatory crime. Manufacturer acquitted.

R v S – Abuse of process, Fitness to plead
Prosecution of defendant for harassment. Complex legal argument concerning prosecution of acutely suicidal defendant, test of fitness to plead, and specifically fitness to participate at trial. No evidence offered after more than 1 year when crown conceded abuse of process argument. No restraining order imposed.

R v M (Blackfriars Crown Court)– Arson

Attempted arson on a busy pub. Expert reports regarding insanity, fitness to plead and dangerousness. Ongoing.

R v H (Southwark Crown Court)– GBH

Allegation against security personnel at Gaypride event. Ongoing.
